About Us

Director’s Message

In 2017 Biblical Counseling of the East Valley (BCEV) was created to help churches, pastors, and people in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

For my wife and me, our passion for biblical counseling grew through the discipleship and friendship of another godly couple.  We desired additional training so  we would be better equipped to serve in our local church.  Through ministries similar to BCEV we grew in our love for God, His Word, and His people.

The purpose of  BCEV is to help churches grow in the worship of our Savior through proclaiming the sufficiency of Scripture and the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This is accomplished through training, certifying, and teaching God’s people to be equipped to counsel one another biblically under the oversight of their local church (Rom 15:14; Col 3:16; Heb 10:24-25; Heb 3:12-13; 1 Thes 5:14; Eph 4:15; Gal 6:1-2).

May God have all the glory due to Him,

Tom Angstead, Director

Board of Directors

Tom Angstead

Tom was born in 1954 in San Francisco and moved with his family to Phoenix in 1960. He and his wife, Ann, married in 1976 and were graciously saved by God within weeks of each other in 1983. Tom is a biblical counselor certified by Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC formerly NANC), a board member and instructor at Biblical Counseling of the East Valley, and a Chaplain with City of Tempe Police Department. Joe Leavell

Joe has been a Certified Biblical Counselor with ACBC since 2017. He was raised in a pastor’s family in the Northwest and has long had a heart for counseling and for pastoral ministry. He married his best friend, Rebekah, in June 2001 and enjoy the four beautiful children that God has given them. Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies and holds a Masters in Biblical Counseling from Master University. He pastored in California for several years and now serves his church in AZ in various ministries. He also counsels with Biblical Counseling of Arizona.  He occasionally finds the time to blog and often makes people groan with puns and nerdy dad jokes.

Omri Miles

Omri was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. God saved him in February 2008. Four months later, he moved to Arizona to join Grace Bible Church. He completed the Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling program at The Master’s University in 2016 and has been a certified biblical counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors since 2018. In order to be further equipped for pastoral ministry, he pursued seminary training, completing the Master of Divinity program at The Expositors Seminary in 2020. Omri loves to study, counsel, preach, and teach God’s word. He lives in Phoenix, AZ with his wife, Emily, and their four children (Chloe, Obadiah, Jonah, and Ezekiel).
