REGISTRATION IS OPEN! Phase 1 — Observation Training

“The things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” — Philippians 4:9

Paul modeled his discipleship after the Lord Jesus who taught in word as well as in deed. In other words, Paul not only told his disciples what to do, but he also showed them how to do it. He preached godliness and modeled godliness as well. Modeling was so much a part of Paul’s discipleship that he was able to say to the church at Philippi, “The things you have…heard and seen in me, practice these things.” It is in this spirit that we offer our Phase 1 — Observation training.

The Phase 1 — Observation training is an opportunity to witness counseling happening in real time so that those who have learned the basics of biblical counseling in our Phase 1 — Fundamentals course can see the sufficiency and authority of Scripture applied to real counseling problems.

Description. The course completes the 10 hours of counseling observation required for certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. Students will meet for two Saturdays (July 22 and 29) from 8am – 2pm. While this is typically a quicker way to complete the observation hours required for certification with the ACBC, we still do strongly encourage participants to observe in-person counseling with their pastors and/or church members for greater sharpening in the practice of counseling.

As part of the course materials, each student will receive a copy of the following resources.

  1. The Christian Counselor’s Manual by Jay Adams
  2. PsychoBabble by Richard Ganz
  3. Counseling the Hard Cases by Stuart Scott and Heath Lambert
  4. A binder with a hard copy of IBCD’s video observation notes

Registration. You can register for the course here https://bcev.org/registration-form/. Because we are convinced that the local church is the only God-ordained institution for overseeing counseling ministry and that pastors are responsible for equipping the flock to counsel biblically, we are working to better involve pastors in our process. Each registrant will need a pastoral reference before submitting payment for the course.
