About Us

Director’s Message

Counseling is an indispensable practice in the life of every well-functioning local church because counseling others is the privilege and duty of the church’s ministers and members (Rom. 15:14; Col. 1:28). But helping others intentionally pursue Christ requires knowledge of God’s word, submission to God’s word, and skill in ministering God’s word to others. As a church that has been graciously strengthened by God to counsel its own members, Grace Bible Church is delighted, through Biblical Counseling of the East Valley, to help pastors and their churches gain further equipping to counsel according to Scripture. 

We are convinced of Scripture’s authority and sufficiency to instruct people in the various, often complicated issues of life. A diligent and humble pursuit of God’s wisdom in Scripture will make us understand “every good path” (Pro. 2:1-9). This conviction is the foundation of our counseling philosophy and practice. We want our training to increase others’ confidence in this conviction so that God would be more greatly glorified in local churches as they regularly minister His sufficient word.

Tom Angstead

Tom was born in 1954 in San Francisco and moved with his family to Phoenix in 1960. He and his wife, Ann, married in 1976 and were graciously saved by God within weeks of each other in 1983. They have two married daughters, Krista Pratchard and Lisa McInturf, four grandsons and one granddaughter. Tom is a biblical counselor certified by Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC formerly NANC).  He was the original director of Biblical Counseling of the East Valley. In addition, he has served as a volunteer chaplain with City of Tempe Police Department since 2006. Tom was a pastor/elder at Grace Bible Church from March 2003 until April 2022.  In April of 2022, he transitioned his pastor/elder role to Gilbert Bible Church which Grace Bible Church planted.

Omri Miles 

Omri was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. God saved him in February 2008. Four months later, he moved to Arizona to join Grace Bible Church. His training includes a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling degree from The Master’s University (2016), certification from the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (2018), and a Master of Divinity degree from The Expositors Seminary (2020). He has been serving as a pastor/elder of Grace Bible Church since April 2021 and has been on staff since 2015. He lives in Phoenix with his wife, Emily, and their five children.
